Eileen Howerton

Eileen May Howerton, 86 of Edwardsville IL, passed at Anderson Hospital June 3rd, 2026, with her family by her side. She was born June 16th, 1939, and was an Edwardsville native.

She was the daughter of the late Paul & Miriam (Hotz) Hertel. She married Lester Howerton on October 11th 1958 at St Johns United Methodist Church in Edwardsville. They had been married 62 years at the time her husband passed.

She is survived by her children, Randy Howerton, Tammy Slifka, and Lari Bain (Jimmy), and a brother Gary Hertel. Eight grandchildren; Victoria, Nicholas, Samantha, Rebecca, Jonnie, Zackary, Conner and Izaia; Ten great grandchildren; Madeline, Logan, Albert, Melanie, Jace, Emily, Benton, Wesley, Harlee, Mallory & Teagan.

She was proceeded in death by a sister, Kathryn Hertel Haring, a brother Paul Hertel, Sister-in- law Donna Hertel and her twin brother William Hertel.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a graduate of Edwardsville High School Class of 1957, where she was a cheerleader. She was employed by Granite City Steel and retired in 1994 after 30 years of service as an inbound raw materials coordinator.

Eileen was also a member of the Edwardsville Junior Service. Eileen and Lester were members of the “Eagle Fleet RV Club” and the Cardinal Wing RV Club, where they enjoyed traveling to places like the Rose Bowl in California and the beaches of Texas.

Visitation will be Friday June 26th at 12:00pm with Funeral Services following.
