Ernie Hernandez

Seferino “Ernie” Hernandez, 80, of O’Fallon, IL, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, September 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on August 26, 1946, in Edinburg, TX, Ernie was raised by his great-grandmother, who preceded him in death.

Ernie proudly served his country as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, retiring after 20 years of dedicated service, and taking great pride in being a Vietnam vet. A vibrant storyteller, Ernie loved sharing memories of his youth and military adventures. Outside of his service, he was an avid golfer and a devoted, lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Above all, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family.

He is survived and will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Chong Hernandez (nee Kim); four children, Michelle (David) Lopez, Mark (Lisa) Hernandez, Sonny (Angela) Hernandez, and Edward (Heather) Hernandez; and six cherished grandchildren, Steven, Christopher, Ruben, Logan, Lacee, and Nora.

A private graveside service with military honors will take place at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
