With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Eugene Frank Persson, age 60, of Granite City, IL, who left this world on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Born on April 10, 1965, in Belleville, IL, Eugene was the beloved son of the late Frank and Karen (Malter) Persson. Eugene's life was a shining example of love, loyalty, and grit.
Eugene worked at CM Memphis as a welder, fabricator and maintenance man in Granite City, IL. Eugene was a true salt-of-the-earth man, known for his tireless work ethic, generous heart, and infectious spirit. He never met a stranger and was always ready to offer a helping hand, a listening ear, or a warm smile. Gifted with remarkable hands-on skills, he was a talented welder and jack-of-all-trades who could build or fix just about anything. Whether it was cars, motorcycles, or projects. Eugene’s craftsmanship reflected his passion and creativity.
A thrill-seeker at heart, Eugene had a deep love for racing and motorcycles. But his greatest joy came from the time he spent surrounded by friends, co-workers and special ones who considered him as family.
He is survived by his wife, Melanie Joy Persson of Louisville, KY; his children, Jarrid Kyle Persson of Louisville, KY, Reanna Jene Bailey of Corydon, IN, and Melina Jo Persson of Louisville, KY; his sister, Carol (Bill) Elms of Collinsville, IL; his grandchildren, Kylen Persson, Sawyer Bailey, and Willow Bailey; Eugene also leaves behind many extended family members and close friends who were touched by his kindness and generosity.
A celebration of Eugene’s extraordinary life will be held at a later date, where stories will be shared, memories honored, and his legacy remembered.
