Freda Jane Amos, 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 7:25 a.m. at LaBella Care Center in Edwardsville, Illinois, surrounded by the love of a family who will miss her beyond measure.
Freda was born on March 6, 1943, and was born and raised in East St. Louis, Illinois. She graduated from Cahokia High School.
On September 18, 1962, Freda married the love of her life, Edgar L. Amos. Together, they shared nearly 64 years of marriage and built a life centered around faith, family, and devotion to one another.
Freda was the loving mother of Christina (John) Marek, the late Kevin Amos, and Karin (Scott) Ahart. She was also blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought tremendous joy to her life. Being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was among her greatest blessings.
Freda was a devoted homemaker who found great purpose in caring for her family. Her home was always a place where her children and grandchildren knew they were loved, welcomed, and cared for. Whenever one of them needed her, Freda was there.
Her faith was at the very center of her life. Freda had been a faithful member of the Collinsville Church of Christ since 1973. One of her greatest joys was studying and teaching the Word of God. Over the years, she welcomed others into her home for Bible studies, sharing her knowledge of Scripture and her love for the Lord.
Freda also had a special place in her heart for children. She enjoyed writing her own children’s books and would give them away to the little ones at church on Sunday mornings. It was simply part of who Freda was—using the gifts God gave her to teach, encourage, and care for others.
Freda spent the final three years of her life on hospice, but those years never defined her. She was a fighter throughout it all, facing each day with remarkable strength and determination. Those who loved her witnessed that strength until the very end.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Kevin Amos, as well as her siblings and parents.
Freda leaves behind her husband, Edgar; her daughters and sons-in-law, Christina and John Marek and Karin and Scott Ahart; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many other family members, church family, and friends whose lives were touched by her love and faith.
Freda will be deeply missed. Her family takes comfort in the faith that guided her throughout her life and in knowing that her suffering has ended and she is now at peace in the loving arms of her Lord.
Her legacy will live on through the family she loved so fiercely, the children she nurtured, the Scriptures she shared, the little books she lovingly wrote, and the many lives she touched along the way.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7
