Frederick Michael Miller, 69, passed away 4:23 a.m., Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

Born on August 9, 1948 in Cape Girardeau, MO, he was the son of Edward Joseph and Edith Harriet (Braden) Miller.

A Vietnam navy veteran, he served as a substitute teacher in the area and was the original bass guitar player for the popular area band, "Broken Arrow".  Fred was a member of the East Alton American Legion Post 794, where he had served on the Ritual Honors Team as well as a member of Wood River VFW Post 2859, where he had served as a Past Post Commander.

On July 15, 1980 in Walker, MN, he married Joyce Zolecki.  She survives.

Surviving also are a son, Greg (Megan) Miller of Wood River; daughter, Rebecca L. Miller of Wood River; grandchildren, Mikenna and Mikayla Miller, Hannah Gray; step granddaughter, Katelyn Sohn; brothers, Mark Miller and Steven Miller of Granite City, Donald (Sandy) Miller of Tamaroa, IL; sisters, Janet Miller of O'Fallon, MO, Lois (Steven) Kramer of Granite City, Joan (Tim) Wall of Florissant, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents and a sister, Julianna Wiser preceded in death.

Visitation will be fro 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday.

Burial will follow in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with full military honors.

Memorials may be made to the family in care of expenses.
