Gloria Morkel

Gloria Jean Morkel, 82, died at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Jerseyville Nursing & Rehab. 

Born September 10, 1936 in Alton, she was the daughter of Athel and Irene (Lowrance) Reeder.  Gloria retired as a night manager for Schnuck’s Grocery Store after 22 years of service.  She was Shop Steward for Retail Clerk’s union #881.  Most recently she had been attending Fieldon Baptist Church.

On August 23, 1975 she married Ted Morkel in Alton and he survives.  Also surviving is a son, Jeffrey Clayton (Patricia) of Kewaskum, Wisconsin, four daughters, Rene’ Oseland (Rick) of Cottage Hills, Tammy Buzan (Mike) of Portsmouth, Virginia, Tiggy Clayton (Mike Gray) of Alton, and Demetria “Mimi” Parker (Shawn) of Fieldon, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, one sister, June Spiker of Alton as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family. 

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Virginia Lee Reeder and a grandson, Dearold Oseland. 

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of a celebration of life service at 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2018 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.  Pastor Bo Schultz will officiate. 

Memorials may be made to the Oasis Women’s Center or Fieldon Baptist Church.
