Harold Tavernier

Harold B. Tavernier, 82, passed away at 6:12 p.m. Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Alton Memorial Hospital.  Born Dec. 30, 1928 in Hamburg, Ill., he was the son of Theodore and Dona (Howland) Tavernier.

He married Carol Long May 28, 1948 in Pleasant Hill, Ill.  She survives.  The U.S. Army veteran of World War II worked as a baker and owner of area doughnut shops for 40 years, retiring in 1985.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Carol Ann Tavernier of Godfrey and Vicky and Preston Waltrip of Bethalto; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James Tavernier of Alton and Dave and Debbie Tavernier of Allentown, Penn.; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a brother and 4 sisters.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 25 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights from noon until services begin at 2 p.m.  Rev. Fred Church will officiate.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
