Harry Fessler

Harry C. Fessler, 95, died at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2019 at the United Methodist Village in Godfrey.  Born April 26, 1924 in Alton, he was the son of Harry Albert and Rachel (Tolle) Fessler.  On March 27, 1954 he married the former Jo Ann Keasler who preceded him in death on March 2, 1999.  Two younger sisters, Alice and Gertrude also preceded him in death.  Harry graduated from Alton High School in 1942, where he ran track.  He was a WWII Veteran being drafted in the Army/Air Force soon after graduation.  He was a Sgt serving with the #557 Air Service Group in the South Pacific.  In 2012 he enjoyed going on the Honor Flight to Washington DC with his two sons.  Harry retired from Amoco (Standard Oil) in 1981 with 36 years of service.  Harry enjoyed being captain on the Eagles Bowling Team that won the state championship in 1966 in De Kalb, IL.  He enjoyed baseball and softball which he played until he was 42 years old.  He took up golf at age 76, and played on the senior league at Rolling Hills.  He was an active member of the Alton Moose and a Life Member of the VFW.  He was a 60-year-old member of Elm Street Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon.  Harry was residing at the United Methodist Village.  Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Alan K. Fessler (Debbie), Wayne Matthew (Ann) and Elizabeth A. Fessler Dietrich.  He was blessed with 8 grandchildren, Meaghen McIntyre (Matt), Grant Fessler, Kyle Fessler, Kevin Fessler, Bryan Dietrich, Sarah Dietrich, Kaitlyn Fessler, and Kallie Fessler, and 6 great grandchildren and a special friend Jo Ann Phelps.  Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Gent Funeral Home where funeral services will be at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, August 8, 2019.  Reverend George Humbert will officiate.  Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Honor Flight or the VFW Post 1308.  Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfunerahome.com
