
Godfrey—Helen V. Hathaway, 92, passed away at 1 p.m. on Christmas Day, 2016 at Eunice C. Smith Home in Alton.
Helen was a native Californian, born in Riverside on Apr. 4, 1924 to Swedish parents Carl and Ellen (Dauhn) Elmlund. She was a loving, loyal and very thoughtful person to all of her family and friends.
She was married to Ernest S. Hathaway, Jr. for 29 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn (Earl) Alberts of Hopkinsville, Ky. and Karen (Ken) LaBoube of Alton; 3 grandchildren, Ryan Alberts, Alec (Lindsey) Alberts, and Alissa Simpson; a step grandson, Brett (Melissa) LaBoube; and 3 great grandchildren, Sawyer and Bailey Alberts and Layna LaBoube.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dorothy Cunnison and Eva Asher; and four brothers, Freed, Leland, Edgar and Vernon Elmlund.
Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 31 at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Godfrey from 9:30 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m. Rev. Kenneth Tegtmeier will officiate.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
