Helen M. Withers, age 90, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Cedarhurst Assisted Living, embraced by the love of her devoted family.

Born in Madison, Illinois, on July 21, 1935, Helen was the beloved daughter of Alexander and Walerja (Kowakzyk) Dobrowolski. Her life was a radiant testament to faith, service, and unconditional love. A lifelong and faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Helen’s voice graced the choir, her hands helped keep the church pristine, and her heart was deeply connected to the Sisters of Divine Providence as an Associate Member.

Helen dedicated many years to the AVSCOM Procurement Division at the Charles Melvin Support Center, retiring in 2000. Her work ethic was matched only by her vibrant spirit. She loved life, cherished laughter, and found her greatest joy in the company of her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and delight, and she embraced every moment with them as a treasured gift.

Helen was preceded in death by her beloved sons, Gary, Mark and Brian Withers; her siblings, Leocadia “Lee” Krpan, Ann Gorman, her twin sister Theresa Carnahan, and Joseph Dobrowolski.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Laurie (Tony) Bauer of Edwardsville, IL, and Angela (David) Stoeberl of St. Louis, MO; her adoring grandchildren, Kristen Coyle, Brandi Withers, Emily Stoeberl, and Audrey Stoeberl; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and cherished friends whose lives were touched by her kindness and grace.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL.

In celebration of Helen’s life, a Mass of Catholic Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City, IL., with Father Alfred Tumwesigye officiating. Helen will be laid to rest at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.

Memorial donations may be given to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church or masses. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel and church.
