Ida Loness

Ida Mae Loness, age 86, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Stearns Nursing & Rehab Center. Born in Sikeston, Missouri, on May 7, 1939, Ida was the cherished daughter of the late Johnnie Thompson and Thelma (Jordon) Cox.

A proud graduate of Gray Ridge High School, Class of 1958, Ida went on to dedicate many years of loyal service to the special department at Watlow Electric in St. Charles, Missouri. On July 29, 1992, she married the love of her life, Edward Loness, with whom she shared many joyful years until his passing in 2005.

Ida was a woman of boundless spirit and infectious laughter. She embraced life with open arms and a generous heart, finding her greatest joy in her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her world, and she delighted in spoiling them with love, treats, and stories that will live on in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Edward, her parents, her son Chris Carter, and her granddaughter Sarah Cox.

Ida leaves behind a legacy of love through her children, Cindy Miller of Granite City, IL, and Andy Carter of Alton, IL; her granddaughter Becky (Ian) Hildreth of Granite City, IL; and her great-grandsons Caleb and Logan Burkard. She is also remembered fondly by extended family and dear friends whose lives she touched with kindness and warmth.

Honoring Ida’s wishes, she will be cremated with no formal services. Her final resting place will be alongside Edward at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
