JERSEYVILLE- Imogene Sams, 87, died at 8:35 a.m., Monday, May 1, 2017at Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.Imogene was born in Jersey Township, in Jersey County, Il., on Sept. 14, 1929, and was the only child of Earthy & Paschia (Loy) Huff.After graduating from Medora High School, Imogene married Robert E. Sams on April 1, 1949 in Kemper, Il. They have been blessed with 68 years together, and the joys of their two children, and her passing with leave a huge void that can not be replaced.Never to know a stranger, Imogene loved to visit with family and friends, and was always willing and eager to take camping trips, with trips to Florida and North Carolina serving as her top destinations. She was an accomplished seamstress, and used those talents early in her married life, where she worked the Max Katz Garment Factory in Alton. Imogene was a gifted painter, and many of her paintings have been received as gifts to her family. At the age of 50, Imogene conquered her fear of water, and began lap swimming on a weekly basis.A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Imogene devoted her love and energy to her family, but she also worked for a period of time at Donham's Department Store in downtown Jerseyville, as well as the Illinois Valley Supply in Kane.Surviving are her husband, Robert Sams of Jerseyville; a daughter and son law, Pat & Mike Meuth of Jerseyville; five grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer and David Fink of Jerseyville, Stacy Meuth, and her fiance' Christian Brooks of White Hall, Mary and Matt Capps of Jerseyville, Stephanie Sams of Bethalto, and Laura Wendle of St. Louis, Mo.; and six great grandchildren, John Wayne, Benjamin, Emily, Cory, Ethan, and Lincoln.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Lynn Sams on March 14, 2014.Visitation will be from 9 a.m., Friday until time of funeral services at 11 a.m., at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Father Tom Hagstrom will officiate.Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials gifts may be given to either the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools or to the Jersey Community High School FFA.
