James Monroe

James “Jim” Leslie Monroe, 62, died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at his home in Alton. Born December 3, 1953 in Alton, he was the son of Alvin M. and Dolores “Dede” (Gaither) Monroe. Mr. Monroe retired in 2012 as a mechanic for Hodge Service Station in Alton. He was a lifetime member of the Owl’s Club and currently serving as President. On December 20, 1981 he married the former Sandy Poore. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Tonya Massalone (Vincent) of South Roxana, two sisters, Diane Crews of Alton and Vickie Monroe of Yulee, FL, and a nephew Brett Crews of Kirbyville, TX. A celebration of life service will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2016 at the Owl’s Club in Alton. Burial will be private at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
