James Milford

James Christoe Milford, 96, passed away at 1:40pm on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon. 

He was born on January 19, 1930, in Alton, the son of the late Ross and Ruth (Christoe) Milford. He married the former Sarah Elizabeth Floyd on June 11, 1955, in Alton, and she passed away on June 23, 2018. 

Survivors include four sons: Mark (Sheila) Milford of Versailles, Illinois, Chris Milford of Wood River, Eric Milford of Edwardsville, Kent Milford of Edwardsville, three grandchildren: Amy Goode and her husband: Darin, Travis Milford, Katie Milford, two great grandchildren: Josh Goode and David Goode, and many other extended family and friends.

Jim earned a Master’s degree in Physical Education and was employed for thirteen years at Roxana Community School District #1 prior to going to work at Lewis & Clark Community College where he worked for over twenty years. He enjoyed playing and coaching tennis, wintering in Florida and spending time with his family. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served during the Korean War.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother: Richard Milford.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. 

Memorials are suggested to Lovejoy United Presbyterian Church in Wood River.
