Janie Navarro

Janie E. “Jane” Navarro, nee Howat, age 87, of Maplewood, MO, formerly of Fairview Heights, IL, born on September 9, 1939, in Kilmacom, Scotland, died on Monday, September 28, 2026 in St. Louis, MO.

Born Janie Evelyn Howat in the small town of Kilmacolm, Scotland, mom was very proud of her Scottish Heritage. As a young girl, she, her mother and brother would take the long, tough journey by ship to America.  Later, she would eventually meet and marry Rudy, the love of her life and they would be together for 68 years. They were a wonderful example to us of true love. She adored her family, but coming in close second was playing her bingo, scratch-off tickets, and of course her Pinot Grigio!

Janie was preceded in death by her husband, Rodolpho “Rudy” Navarro, who died on July 31, 2026; her children, Rudy Navarro, Jr, James Tottleben, and Debra Hernandez; her parents, George and Golda, nee Manier Howat; and her brother, James “Scottie” Howat.

She is survived by her children, Rebecca (Joe) Weldon and Dawn (Tom) Suarez; 7 grandchildren, Brittney Shamalian, Alexandra (Luke Marshall) Weldon, Shane Navarro, Joey Suarez, Michelle Palmer, Brandy Oharrow, and Jennifer Oharrow; 11 great grandchildren, Marianna, Sierra, Catalina, Daniel, Brianna, Jose, Antonio, Ilyssa, Giovanni, Lexus and Emma; 2 great-great grandchildren, Anastasia and Syles; her brother, John (Donnie) Howat of Marion, IL; and her two nieces, Amy (Chris) Ross and Amanda Howat.

Memorials may be made to Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fairmont City, IL, or to the Salvation Army.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fairmont City, IL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fairmont City, IL.

A private interment will be held in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
