Jean Kirts

K. Jean Kirts, age 81, of Glen Carbon, IL, passed away on Sunday September 6, 2026, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

Jean was born on July 25, 1945, in Dayton, OH, the daughter of the late Marvin O. & G. Elizabeth (Molter) Kirts. Jean married Josephine A. Costarella and they were legally married in October of 2015, after many years together.

Josephine preceded Jean in death on July 4, 2022. Besides her parents and wife, Jean was preceded in death by her brother, Jim Kirts.

Jean dedicated many years of her life to McKendree University in Lebanon, IL where she was a Professor Emeritus of Health and Human Performance. She also coached several intermural women’s teams and was director of intramurals during the 1970’s. In 1977, Jean Kirts became McKendree's first director of women's athletics. Jean loved horses and was also an accomplished equestrian.

She will be cremated according to her wishes and will be interred at Woodlawn Cemetery in Edwardsville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials Partners for Pets and donations can be sent in care of Weber & Rodney Funeral Home.
