
Joe H. Harrington Sr. 84 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
Joe was born on April 10, 1937, in Lynch, Kentucky; the son of the late John and Marie (Kelley) Harrington. Joe worked for Comfort Heating & Cooling for 40 years and was a member of the sheet metal workers local 262. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was a well-known outdoorsman where he enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially traveling to Canada where he hunted for bear and moose. Joe loved country living and being outside and enjoyed all his days of fishing with his grandchildren. Most of all Joe loved his family and will be remembered for all the special times they shared together.
Joe is survived by and will be missed by his wife of 66 years, Helen (Rains) Harrington, whom he married on October 13, 1956; children, Rick and Stacey Lynn Harrington, Bill Harrington, Jodi and Scott Arnett, Joe and Stacey Jo Harrington, Vicki Harrington; grandchildren, Jessica Lloyd and Nick Mealor, Dustin and Ryan Arnett, Brittni and Corey Richardson, Jarrett Harrington, Zack and Katie Arnett, Jake and Kate Harrington, Jeremy Harrington, Amy and Dylan Ritchie, Trevor Harrington; great-grandchildren, Madisyn Arnett, Eve Arnett, Ellowyn Arnett, Colton Ritchie, Orvel Arnett, Cori Jo Ritchie; his brother-in-law and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other close family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Jane Harrington, and his brother, Gene Harrington.
In celebration of Joe’s life, a memorial gathering will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the services at 7:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. A family burial will take place at a later date at County Line Cemetery near Thompsonville, Illinois. Memorial donations are suggested to the Parkinson’s Foundation, Shriners Hospital, or the Humane Society.
