John Amann

John “Jack” William Amann, Sr., 79, of Belleville, IL, born July 29, 1946, in Belleville, IL, died Sunday, November 30, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born the son of the late Paul J. and Gertrude, nee Berkel, Amann. He attended and graduated from Cathedral Grade School and Cathedral High School. He went on to marry his beloved wife, Margaret (Margie) Sarkesian on August 23, 1965, and who died on March 5, 2025. They shared 59 wonderful years together.

Jack is survived by his children who loved him dearly, Margaret (Glenn) Wiegmann, Angel (Tom) Ackerman, Maria (Greg) Jaster, John (Amy) Amann, and Brian (Trish) Amann. He also has ten grandchildren, Luke Ackerman & Claire (Kyle) Bammer, Kate & Ava Jaster, Josh & Emma Amann, Jack, Drew, Nick, and Grace Amann; his brothers, Charlie (Mary), Richard (Barb), Don; and the late Paul and Debbie Amann.

Jack retired after many years of service for the City of Belleville. Prior to working for the City of Belleville, Jack was a Mechanic at Birdie’s Zephyr Station. Jack was a member of Cathedral of St. Peter Catholic Church & The Knights of Columbus. He spent countless weekends year after year with his wife and children at the Amann Family Clubhouse where he would take his boys fishing and hunting. He taught each of his children how to shoot, enjoy time with family, and being outdoors.

Jack has been a proud papa from the day his first grandchild was born. He would pick up his grandson on Friday and keep him for the weekend allowing him to build “traps” and anything else out of scrap wood. He always wanted to have his grandkids spend the night so he could feed them junk and make them whatever they wanted for breakfast and often times surprising them with donuts. Although Jack decided to retire and be done with the normal work shift, he quickly realized he was going to be a part time (in some cases full time) babysitter for his grandchildren who loved him dearly.

In addition to his babysitting gig, he was also a beautician for his granddaughters, brushing their hair before school, Project Manager for his children as they gave him countless projects to do so he would never get bored and well his children had a lot of work that needed to be done and he was the only one that could do it with the best precision around. He spent many hours working in his garden planting many vegetables with his grandchildren there by his side. Jack loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, they were the light of his life.
