John Battles

John Edward Battles, 63, of East Alton, Il, passed away at 2:10 p.m. Mon. June 5, 2017 at OSF St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton, IL.

He was born Dec. 22, 1953 in Aurora, MO to the late Dorotha Ellen (Furlow) Battles.

On Aug. 9, 1975, he and Susan Elizabeth Bush were married in Wood River, IL.  She survives in East Alton.

John had a keen interest in computers and gaming.  He loved Westerns, fishing, bbq and donuts & coffee.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters: Leah Battles and Melissa Smith of East Alton; 3 grandchildren: Stephen Dayle Eugene Smith, William Andrew Battles and Michael Edward Battles; 4 brothers: David Victor (Kerry) Battles of Wood River, Donald Stephen (Kristi) Battles of South Roxana, Mark Thomas Battles of Elsah, IL and Luke Timothy (Charlena) Battles of Bethalto, IL; and his father and step-mother: Rev. Stephen Edward & Carolyn Battles of Marine, IL.

Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Art Smith.

The family will hold a memorial visitation from 2:00 p.m. until time of memorial services at 4:00 p.m. Sat. June 10, 2017 at Restoration Gospel Lighthouse in Wood River, IL with Pastor Troy Huffman officiating.  Private burial will be at a later date at Wanda Cemetery.
