
John J. Farmer, 94, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at 3:08 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
He was born October 27, 1931 in Brighton, IL to John Edward and Emma (Kuehnel) Farmer.
John married Judith Ann Dooley on November 18,1961 in Alton, IL. She preceded him in death in 2007.
He was a proud Democrat and precinct committee member. John served our country in the United States Army at Fort Lee, VA and Salzburg Austria. He was the Brighton Township Road Commissioner for 8 years, County Board of Brighton for 4 years, Brighton Mayor for 4 years, Township Trustee for 16 years, and Zoning Commissioner. John retired from Teamster-Local 525 where he worked for 40 years. He was the longest honorary member of the Brighton Tri-County Rod & Gun Club, American Legion and a Lifetime member of the VFW.
Surviving are his 7 children: John Edward Farmer, Mark (Karla) Farmer, Bridgett Ann Morris, Harry Glen Farmer, Debra Kesler, Joe Farmer and Mary (Rusty) Ruyle. Also surviving: 10 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, 2 sisters-in-law, 1 brother-in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 9 siblings and 1 son-in-law.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at noon, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Brighton, IL.
Burial will follow at Brighton Cemetery with Military honors.
