Josephine Vandevord

Josephine A. "Jo" Vandevord, 87, passed away peacefully to the next life at 5:10 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.

Born on October 11, 1928 in Ransom, she was one of the fourteen children born to John and Anna (Klaic) Rugletic. Her parents and all of her sibling preceded her in death.

Jo was a woman of deep faith, which shaped her spiritually in the Christian faith through various Catholic Charismatic groups and activities she attended.

Jo met Charles H. Vandevord in Philadelphia while he was serving in the navy.  They were married on April 17, 1948 in Pittston, PA.

In addition to Charles, she is survived by her children, Linda (Joel) Richards of Lenexa, KS, Daniel (Susan) Vandevord of Alton, Nancy (Christopher) Lind of Grafton, Julie (Brian) Brenton of Warrensburg, MO; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. A Prayer Service will be recited at 5 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Angels Parish Church in Wood River.  Father Donald Wolford will be celebrant.

Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to Holy Angels Parish or masses.
