June L. Schmoeller, 93, died at 10:30 P.M. on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Dogwood Plantation Assisted Living in Fulton, Mississippi.
She was born to the late John E. and Cora M. (Lewis) Winters on October 10, 1922 in Edwardsville, Illinois.
June married LeRoy J. Schmoeller in Edwardsville, Illinois on May 27, 1937, at the Presbyterian Church. They lived in the Alton Area until settling in Brighton, IL. in 1946. They had 4 children.
She was a homemaker and worked in their family nursery. Later working at Morganroth Nursery in Godfrey. June became the 3rd female insurance agent in the state of Illinois and the 1st in Macoupin County until she retired in 1986. She was a reporter for the Macoupin County Enquirer and active in the Brighton Schools, a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader, member of the Brighton Civic League, a charter member and past Matron of the Brighton Order of the Eastern Star, the Good Sam's Club, VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries and the Red Hat Society. She was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Brighton, where she served various positions including Youth Leader and became a Bethel Bible Series teacher and served on the Presbyterian Mariners, She loved sewing, gardening, reading, puzzles, camping and traveling.
She resided in Brighton while wintering in Texas until she moved to Pharr, Texas full time in 2005; moving to Mississippi in 2013
Survivors include 1 daughter & son in law; Linda & Gary Ressler of Brighton, 2 sons and 3 daughters in law; Leroy & Eva Schmoeller of Palestine, Texas, David & Estelle Schmoeller of Mt. Olive, Illinois, Diana Schmoeller of Fulton, Mississippi, Daughter in law; Diana Schmoeller, 9 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great Grandchild, nieces, nephews and 2 sisters-in-law, Norma and Ilene Winters.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 son; Thomas Schmoeller, 1 sister; Dorothy Simpson and 2 brothers; Paul & Ernest Winters.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Brighton
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 29, 2016 at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Brighton
The Revs. Patty Stone and Ray Robinson will officiate.
Burial will take place at Alton Upper Cemetery. Targhetta & Wooldridge Funeral Home in Brighton is in charge
