Karen Dunlap, 51, passed away at 8:55 pm Friday, May 24, 2013 at Barnes Jewish Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born on June 27, 1961 in Charleston West Virginia, the daughter of the late Jesse and Betty (Ferrell) Dunlap.
She was employed at Josephine’s Tea Room in Godfrey, and the Olin Winchester Manufacturing in East Alton. She was an avid estate and yard seller, but her greatest joy was spending time with her children and her grandchildren, especially her five “boys” grandsons, who she had custody of and delighted in their every day antics.
She is survived by her life long companion Richard Shewmake, two daughters; Wendy Shewmake and her companion David Meyers of Bethalto, Alisha Shewmake of Alton, a son; David Dunlap of Alton and his companion Dana Crocker, two step-daughters; Lawanda and her husband Bob Hamby of Cottage Hills, and Dixie Kelley of Bethalto. Ten grandchildren; Jesse Dunlap, Joey Dunlap, David Dunlap Jr., Duane Dunlap, Jake Dunlap, Richards Meyers, Jaden Meyers, Roger Hamby, Samantha Hamby, and Collin Kelley, one brother Wayne Dunlap of Godfrey, and a brother-in-law: Fred Dick, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister; Peggy Dick, two brothers; Delbert Douglas Dunlap, and Jesse Dunlap.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 4 pm till time of service at 6 pm, Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton with the Rev. Charles West officiating.
