JERSEYVILLE-  Kenneth L. Ashford, 76, died Monday, June 24, 2013 as a result of injuries sustained in traffic accident in Madison County.He was born on October 5, 1936 in Jerseyville, and was the only child born to the late Ornan & Alta Mae (Baker) Ashford.He graduated in 1954 from Jersey Community High School., and served his country with the U.S. Army.  He soon began his employment with Laclede Steel Company in Alton, where he was employed for over 40 years retiring in 1994.  Even after retirement, Kenneth served Laclede Steel as a consultant.He married the former JoAnn P. Powderly on Oct. 31, 1959 in Jerseyville, and they were blessed with almost 54 years together, along with two children & two grandchildren.Surviving are his wife, JoAnn Ashford of Jerseyville; a daughter, Karen (Ashford) Cronin of Godfrey; and two granddaughters, Carmen Cronin and Kathryn "Katie" Cronin.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Bradley Dean Ashford who died on Aug. 18, 1982 as a result of an auto accident; and his step father, Carl Ketchum.Visitation will be from 11 to 1 p.m. Friday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.  Graveside services will immediately follow the visitation at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to Camp Ondessonk in care of the funeral home
