Kevin Scott Ganger, age 60, of O’Fallon, Ill., passed away suddenly on September 10, 2026, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., following injuries sustained in a fall.
Kevin was born on June 23, 1966, in Winchester, Kan. He graduated from O’Fallon Township High School in 1985 and earned his associate degree from Southwestern Illinois College, formerly Belleville Area College, in 1987.
On October 24, 1997, Kevin married Catherine Ganger. Together, they built a life filled with family, love, and countless memories. Kevin was a devoted husband and proud father to his daughter, Jessica, born in 2003, and his son, Trent, born in 2009. Being their father was one of the greatest joys of his life.
Throughout his life, Kevin worked in painting, construction, real estate, lawn maintenance, and tree trimming and removal. After his children were born, he kept his work flexible so he could be a stay-at-home dad. He wanted to be present for Jessica and Trent and ensure they would not have to spend their days in daycare. Kevin especially enjoyed being part of the “Transpo Team” while Jessica was a member of the OTHS Marching Panthers. Although it was hard work, being behind the scenes and spending more time with Jessica was precious to him.
More recently, Kevin returned to full-time work with the United States Postal Service as a Rural Carrier Assistant. He genuinely enjoyed the job, particularly driving the back roads, spending time outdoors, and taking in the beauty of the world around him.
When he was not working or with his family, Kevin enjoyed duck hunting and fishing with his best buddy, Steve Schumert. He also loved taking road trips with his family. In recent years, they made cherished memories during annual summer trips to the beaches of Lake Michigan in Michigan.
Kevin was always willing to help others and found happiness in being of service. While admitted to the Neuro ICU, he participated in a research study in the hope that his experience might benefit others in the future. He also became a donor through Mid-America Transplant, extending his spirit of giving beyond his life.
Kevin was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon A. Ganger, and his brother, Mark C. Ganger.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine; his daughter, Jessica; and his son, Trent. He is also survived by his father, Marvin Ganger and his wife, Sharon; his brother and sister-in-law, Todd and Gerilyn Ganger; his sister-in-law, Sarah Cecil Ganger; his nephew, James Ganger; and his niece, Emma Ganger. He leaves behind many beloved family members in Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Tennessee.
Kevin’s beloved Foxfire yellow Labrador, Rylee, was an important part of his family. She already greatly misses her daddy and continues to search the house for him.
Kevin will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his love of the outdoors, his willingness to help others, and the happiness he found in everyday moments with the people he loved. His influence will remain in the memories shared by his family and friends and in the lives touched by his kindness.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Memorials may be given in Kevin’s memory to the O’Fallon Panther Band Boosters or the O’Fallon Food Pantry. Message the family, view a photo tribute, and offer condolences at www.wfh-ofallon.com.
