Laverne Highsmith

Laverne Highsmith, 77, passed away at 9:49 a.m. Sunday, November 20, 2016 at OSF St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton, IL.

Born Feb. 21, 1939 in Delta, Mo., she was a daughter of John L. and Minnie P. (Allensworth) Adams.

She married Bobbie Ray Highsmith, Sr. Dec. 23, 1956 in Meadowbrook.  He passed away Oct. 18, 2016.

Laverne worked as a secretary for Wood River Glass.  She loved to dance.

She is survived by a son, Bobbie R. Highsmith, Jr. of Cottage Hills; 3 grandchildren, Sarah Livingston, Bobbie R. Highsmith III, and Phoenix Helmkamp; 4 great grandchildren, Skylar, Trinity, Zander, and Hayley; and a sister, Wanda Gregory of Brighton, IL.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Kenneth F. Highsmith and a brother, John Adams Jr.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at 1:00 p.m. Fri. Nov. 25, 2016 at Paynic Home for Funerals.  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
