Lawrence Reid

Lawrence F. (Larry) Reid died peacefully on July 5, 2026 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was 85 years old.

The first child of Francis X. and Mary Lundy Reid, Larry was born on November 19, 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri. He is survived by Sister Kathleen Reid, ASC, his sister.

He grew up in East St. Louis, Illinois where he knew the love and fun of being part of a close-knit extended family. He made lifelong friends at St. Elizabeth and St. Patrick grade schools, Assumption High School, St. Louis University and through membership in the St. Louis Chapter of the Catholic Alumni Club.

Larry earned BS and MS degrees from St. Louis University and worked as an auditor with the Internal Revenue Service based in St. Louis for 35 years.

As a devout Catholic Larry followed the example of Jesus and of the parents who raised him.  He gave generously to his parish, St. Augustine of Canterbury in Belleville, Illinois and to persons assisted by the Society of St. Vincent DePaul, Catholic Urban Programs of East St. Louis and Beacon Ministries of Belleville.

Larry was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 592, Serra Club of St. Clair County and Catholic Alumni Club.

Surgery in 2020 severely limited his mobility. However, care and visits from family, loving assistance of professional caregivers from Home Instead and phone calls with friends kept Larry connected to people who nurtured his vitality. 

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Larry’s memory to St. Vincent DePaul Society of Belleville, Catholic Urban Programs of East St. Louis or St. Augustine of Canterbury Church, Belleville, Illinois.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.

Visitation will also be held on Monday, July 13, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Fr. Bill McGhee officiating.  Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
