Lillard Ray

Lillard “Whitey” Ray, 82, of Alton, died peacefully at 8:55 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011 surrounded by his loved ones. 

He was born December 20, 1928 in Kentucky, but lived in the Alton area his entire life.  He was the son of Nellie Johnson and Lillard Ray Sr. both preceded him in death.  In 1950, he married Darla Henson who also preceded him in death.  Whitey worked as a machinist at Owens-Illinois until retirement and he fought in the Korean Conflict.  He is survived by three daughters, Nancy Hulslander of Godfrey, Beverly Bogart of Troy, Dr. Susan (Michael) Lamond of Leeds, MA; a sister, Nora Mae Gilmour of Roxana; two grandchildren, Darin Hulslander and Catherine Lamond; and his companion, Bobbe Retzer of East Alton. 

Private memorial service; interment will be at Alton National Cemetery. 

Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
