Louise James

Louise Lee James, 89, passed away on February 19, 2026 at St. Anthony’s Hospital.

Louise was born on January 3, 1937 in Hardy, Arkansas to Robert and Evelyn (Groves) Bowman.

She married Jesse E. James in 1961, he preceded her in death.

She raised her younger sisters after her mother caught Tuberculosis. She lost her father at the young age of 11 due to a train accident. She loved animals, especially her dogs and cats. She was an amazing cook, especially goulash, chocolate chip cookies, spaghetti with meatballs, and “monster” biscuits. Her favorite thing was being a mother and grandmother.

Louise is survived by her children, Rosemary James and Joseph James both of Alton, IL; sisters, Helen Nash (Raymond) of Texas and Margaret Ann Sellers of Godfrey, IL; a granddaughter, Shanna James.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband; her parents; infant brother; sister, Johnnie Bowman; sister, Rose May; and many extended family and friends.

Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
