Marion “Bud” Zipfel, born November 18, 1938, in Belleville, IL, peacefully passed away at age 87 on Saturday, October 10, 2026, in Highland Health Care Center.

Bud lived a full and remarkable life, leaving behind a legacy of family, friendship, and accomplishment. As a gifted athlete throughout his early years, Bud signed with the New York Yankees out of high school at age 17. He went on to enjoy a 12-year professional baseball career, including two years with the then Washington Senators of the American League, gathering a lifetime of memories and stories to share. His name graced the title of Aaron to Zipfel, a 1985 book chronicling every major league player who debuted in the 1960s, by Rich Marazzi and Len Fiorito.

He continued his success as a salesman and entrepreneur, as he proudly owned and operated an insurance and real estate business for more 50 years in Belleville.

Bud shared both his personal and professional life with his spouse, Jackie Elmore for 46 years. Together they built a lasting partnership rooted in love, dedication, and mutual support.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Agnellus H. Zipfel and Tolethia R. Zipfel, née Honer; three brothers, Agnellus E. Zipfel, Melvin R. Zipfel, and Marvin Zipfel; and a son-in-law, Aaron Helgeson.

He is survived by his spouse, Jackie Elmore; his four children, Jillana M. Zipfel (Kenneth Ferkel), Todd R. Zipfel (Nicole), Jennifer Zipfel Helgeson, and Heather A. Rodriguez (Jose); five grandchildren, Lillian Jarman, Kathryn Jarman, Elizabeth Helgeson, Tanner Rodriguez, and Isabella Rodriguez; his twin sister, Marilyn Boehne; and many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Although Bud accomplished much throughout his life, it was the relationships he built and the people he touched that truly defined him. He was a loving father, a proud grandfather, a devoted spouse, and a wonderful role model. Known for his witty personality, his outgoing nature, and his big heart, Bud left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.

Bud will be remembered not only for his accomplishments, but for the countless lives he touched along the way. His warmth, generosity, and ability to make everyone feel like a friend will never be forgotten. His memory will live on through the family he loved and the many friendships he treasured throughout his life.
