Michael Edward Godfrey, 59, died September 4, 2017 at his home in Gulf Breeze, FL after a 7-year battle with cancer.  He was born July 13, 1958 in Jerseyville, IL the son of Charles A. and Ellen L. (Callahan) Godfrey.  He attended Alton schools and graduated from Alton Sr. High School in 1976 where he excelled at many sports.  Mike was a passionate golfer. He loved both playing the game and watching the pros.  He was a loyal St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan where he always made it a point to go see a game when he was back home visiting. He traveled all over the world with work and for leisure.  He loved the ocean and boating. He worked in marketing for Sweet and Low and Splenda where he retired.  He then started his own real estate brokerage company called Releo Realty.  In March of 2003 he married Margaret Quina and she survives.  Also surviving are a daughter, Brianna of Pensacola, FL, a step daughter Corinne of Gulf Breeze, FL, one grandson, Kamdon, his mother in law, Martha Quina, his mother, Ellen L. Godfrey, five brothers, Daniel J. of Dow, IL, Stephen M. of Godfrey, Timothy J. of Dow, Anthony P. (Julia) of Godfrey and David A. (Ellen) of Godfrey, one sister, Christina M. (Jeffrey) Wooff of Alton, his God Parents, Maurice and Sophia Montgomery of St. Charles, MO and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brittany and his father Charles Godfrey.  He will be deeply missed by his inseparable buddy, his dog Leo and many friends that he stayed in contact with since his school days.  Per his wishes he was cremated.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey with Father Steven Janoski and Deacon Bill Kessler Officiating.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society.  Additional information and online guest book may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
