Nelda Goodrich

Nelda Ann (Bradford) Goodrich, 86, of Bethalto, went home to meet her Lord on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at her home in Villa Rose Senior Living Community.

She was born on August 18, 1938, in Granite City, the daughter of Clyde A. and Virgie M. (James) Bradford. Nelda married Hugh S. Goodrich on June 29, 1956, in Cottage Hills, IL. He preceded her in death after 58 years of marriage, on July 20, 2014.

Nelda retired from Midwest Steel in Granite City where she worked for 18 years as an office manager. She was a born again Christ follower, happy to serve as a Sunday School teacher from ages child to adult, VBS director, and adult Bible study teacher in various churches throughout her life. Latest being Wednesday night Bible class leader at Villa Rose. She was actively involved in Girl Scouts leading Brownies, Junior and Girl Scout Troops in the 70's. Nelda spent many hours filled with Bingo and cards with her pals from Villa Rose. She made some very good friends there with the residents and staff alike.

Nelda looked forward to Fridays when her brother would pick her up for lunch and spend the day with her. Time spent with her family was what she most enjoyed, no matter what they would be doing. One of her favorite activities was attending high school band concerts and events where her great-grandson, Alex, participated in. She also loved the many games of Skip-Bo she and her kids played together.

A few of her favorite things to collect were tea pots and tea cups. She participated in the Red Hat Society activities. Nelda was a caring, loving woman with a life well lived. She will always be a special part of us and we will miss her until we see her again.

Survivors include her daughter, Joan (Jerry) Wineinger of Bethalto; two grandchildren, Amanda (Scott) Kuhlman of Collinsville, and Samuel (Rachel) Wineinger of Wood River; a great-grandchild, Alex Kuhlman of Collinsville; two siblings, David Bradford of Edwardsville, and Diane Davis of Maryville.

Along with her parents and husband, Hugh, she was preceded in death by a younger brother, Gordon Bradford; and an older sister, Margaret Smelcer.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m., at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Reverend Dan Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.

Memorials are suggested to Connect Christian School in South Roxana.
