
Nicholas Roy “Nick” Niemann, 44, of Maryville, Illinois, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025. Born July 10, 1981, in Huntington, West Virginia, he was the beloved son of Lawrence V. Niemann Jr. and the late Carol A. (Pederson) Niemann.
A proud and decorated U.S. Army Veteran, Nick honorably served his country with the National Guard and the Army’s 101st Airborne Division, completing two tours in Iraq during his time with the “Screaming Eagles.” He earned a reputation as a natural leader and dependable mentor, serving as a Team Leader, Squad Leader, and Platoon Sargent. He received numerous awards for his service. Notably, during “The Surge” in 2007, he received the distinguished title of Soldier of the Year. This Honor led him to be combat promoted to SGT E5 and to earn the Combat Infantryman Badge.
His post Military career was especially rewarding for him. He managed all contracted security for events at Bush Stadium, America’s Center, Enterprise Center, including all Cardinal games, multiple concert events, and the Blues games during their Stanley Cup Playoff wins.
Beyond his military accomplishments, Nick was a man of many talents and passions. A gifted woodworker, he created countless handcrafted pieces that are treasured by family and friends. Each a small reflection of his patience and creativity. Nick had a deep love for animals and found joy in the companionship of his dogs and cat.
Above all, Nick cherished his family. His greatest pride was being a father to his daughter, Alyssa Niemann, whom he loved beyond measure. His loyalty, generosity, and sense of humor touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Alyssa Niemann of Edwardsville; his father and stepmother, Lawrence V. “Larry” and Jan Niemann Jr. of Edwardsville; his brother, Tyler R. Niemann of West Plains, Missouri; his nephew, Jaxon J. Niemann of West Plains, Missouri; his former wife and mother of his daughter, Heather (MacMillan) Niemann of Edwardsville; other extended family and many friends.
In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Sunday, October 26, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. until time of a service at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Kent Schuette officiating and remembrances by family and friends. He will be laid to rest with full military honors in a private family service at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
