Norman Stavely

Norman Stavely, lifelong traveler, and proud Eagle Scout, passed away on March 1, 2026, at the age of 67. Norm was born on October 8, 1958 in Granite City, Illinois.

As an Eagle Scout, Norm’s early commitment to leadership and service set the stage for his future. He pursued his passion for science at Greenville University (formerly Greenville College), where he earned his degree in Chemistry. Norm enjoyed working at Yellowstone National Park during the summers of college. Other life interests included golfing and entertaining as a clown for parades in his clown car.

His science expertise led him to a distinguished career as an Ammunition Specialist for the U.S. Government. His service took him across the globe, with deployments and assignments in South Korea, Afghanistan, Bosnia, and Germany, as well as stateside posts in Texas, New York, Utah, and Maryland.

Beyond his professional life, Norm was an adventurer at heart who found great joy in exploring new cultures and landscapes. Whether he was stationed abroad or traveling for pleasure, he embraced every opportunity to see the world.

Norm is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Margie Stavely.

Norm is survived by his loving wife, Helga Lettau, and his stepdaughter, Karin. He also leaves behind his sister, Beverly Thomas (Richard), and his best friend of many years, Tim Svoboda. He will be remembered by his Uncle Fred Kirksey, Uncle Dennis Stavely and his many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In celebration of Norman’s life, his visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL., with the memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
