Odie R. Hill, 81, passed away at 1:24am on Monday, March 26, 2012, at his residence. He was born on January 4, 1931, in Wood River, Illinois the son of the late Benjamin A. and Ida M. (LaRue) Hill. He married the former Jean Conner on November 2, 1951, in Hartford, Illinois and she survives. Other survivors include four daughters and sons in law: Susan DiSalvo of St. Louis, Missouri, Nancy and Ronald Martin of Wood River, Debbie and John Potter of Wood River, Donna and Randy Karpan of Rosewood Heights, eleven grandchildren: Kelli Inman and her husband: Kevin, Amy Zeller and her husband: Travis, Laurie Mortland and her husband: Drew, Emily Martin, Kimberly Potter, Katie Potter and her fiance: Andy Huff, Dustin Potter, Nikki Potter, Timothy Potter, Kristen Karpan and her fiance': Tim Gusewelle, Justin Karpan, six great grandchildren: Evan Jensen, Austin Martin, Ezra Martin, Alexa Zeller, Bodhi Inman, Kimara Anderson, one sister: Mary Stocker of Jerseyville, Illinois, one brother and sister in law: Gordon and Linda Hill of Godfrey, and many nieces and nephews.
He was employed at Laclede Steel for 42 years as an electrician prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Wood River Township Kiwanis, a lifetime member of the Wood River VFW Post 2859, and the East Alton American Legion # 714. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wood River. He enjoyed fishing with his two best friends: L.D. Allen and Walt Lintz. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: James Hill, Ben Hill, Billy Hill, and one sister: Ellen Louis Woodward.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Funeral services at 11am on Thursday, March 29, 2012, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Woodland Hill Cemetery in East Alton.
Memorials are suggested to BJC Hospice or to the First United Methodist Church in Wood River.
