Patricia Smith

Patricia Ann Smith, 79, of Alton, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026. She was born in St. Louis on April 29, 1947, to Edward and Leona (Czarnopys) Chierek.

She was a devoted member of Southwestern Apostolic Lighthouse Church in Medora, IL, and had a heart for serving others. She generously volunteered her time with Meals on Wheels and Operation Blessing. She had a love for reading and challenging herself to learning computer software programs, becoming quite tech savvy over the years.

Pat also enjoyed traveling throughout the country while working as a travel manager for bus tours. In her free time, she loved being outdoors, whether she was tending to the yard on her John Deere, hiking, or bicycling. Pat was also incredibly creative and enjoyed many different types of crafts, including quilting, cross-stitching, crocheting, and creating handmade greeting cards.

Above all, Pat was a loving wife, mother, daughter, niece, aunt, and friend. She will be remembered for her caring heart, her willingness to serve others, and the many special memories she created with those who knew and loved her.

Pat is survived by her daughter, Lisa Smith of Alton, IL; and brother, Robert (Celestine) Chierek of Festus, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford Smith; sisters, Constance (Bob) Schlingmann and Mary (Kenneth) Ploch; and brother, Leon Chierek.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 10:00 am to the time of service at 12:00 pm at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, IL. On Friday, September 18, 2026, funeral procession will leave Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, IL at 9:30 am for burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Operation Blessing, in Wood River, IL.
