Paul Parson

Paul Leroy Parson, age 85, of Edwardsville, Illinois, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2026, at LaBella of Edwardsville. Born on March 13, 1941, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, he was a son of the late Paul T. and Dorothy (Baysinger) Parson.

On September 16, 1962, Paul married Carole Grimm, the love of his life, in Ferguson, Missouri. Together, they shared sixty-four years of marriage, building a life centered on their love for one another and the family they cherished.

Paul devoted thirty-seven years to the Southern Illinoisian newspaper in Carbondale, Illinois, retiring in 2000 as a production manager. Away from work, he enjoyed photography and had a keen eye for capturing the world around him. An early computer enthusiast, he took an interest in computers from their beginnings. He also held a special place in his heart for his pets and all animals.

Above all, Paul’s greatest joy was his family. Time spent with Carole, his daughter, brother and his granddaughters meant more to him than anything else. He was a loving husband, father, brother and proud grandfather whose memory will remain close to the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His absence will be deeply felt, and the moments shared with him will be treasured.

Paul is survived by his devoted wife, Carole Parson of Edwardsville, Illinois; his loving daughter, Amy (Michael) McGarr of Edwardsville, Illinois; his dear brother, Jack (Nancy) Parson of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; his cherished granddaughters, Katie McGarr and Lauren McGarr; extended family; and many wonderful friends.

In keeping with Paul’s wishes, he will be cremated, and no formal services will be held. A private family gathering to celebrate his life will take place at a later date.
