Paul Henry Poeling, 87, of Staunton, IL, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026 at Christian Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born July 14, 1939 in Alton, IL, the son of the late Peter & Nettie (Erb) Poeling. He married Myra Windau on July 2, 1966 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Douglas, IL & she survives.
Paul was employed as an HVAC serviceman at Staunton Hospital, retiring in 2002, & a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Staunton, IL. He was also a proud U.S. Army Veteran, & a member of Staunton American Legion Post #362.
He is survived by his wife - Myra Poeling of Staunton, IL; two daughters - Pam (Mike) Trausch of Palatine, IL, & Nancy Poeling of Schaumburg, IL; two granddaughters - Heather (Nick) Butler of Palatine, IL, & Megan Trausch of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one sister - Mary Lou Sutton of Alton, IL; & several nieces & nephews also survive. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers - Eugene Poeling & Bernard Poeling; one sister in infancy; brother-in-law - Harold Sutton; sister-in-law - Mary Lynn Poeling; niece - Lisa Rosenthal; & a son-in-law - Brian Williams.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11:30 AM on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Zion Lutheran Church in Staunton, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, September 12, 2026, followed by military honors, at Zion Lutheran Church in Staunton, IL, with Pastor Phil Girardin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to either Zion Lutheran Church of Staunton, IL, the Staunton Area Ambulance Service, or to Community Hospital of Staunton, IL.
