East Alton

Randy D. Durbin, 74, of East Alton, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 11:47 a.m. at his residence.

He was born on September 3, 1950, in Vandalia, IL, the son of Charles and Lillian Virginia (Smith) Durbin. He married Shirley A. Delp in Rosewood Heights, on October 17, 1986. She survives.

Randy worked as an electrician at Heidtman Steel Inc. in Granite City for 11 years. He started go-cart racing at 9 years old, then racing Enduro go-karts in many states and won endless trophies. He also raced sprint cars, midget cars, and late model cars. Randy was a member of 618 Bass Masters Fishing Club. Bass fishing was one of his favorite hobbies. He enjoyed working on boats and cars and spending time with family and friends.

Along with his wife, Shirley, he is survived by his children, Tracy (Tim) Rucker of Arkansas, Tina (Mike) Shewmake of East Alton, Jeremy Durbin of Bethalto, Jeff (Tera) Durbin of Bethalto, Julie Eaker of East Alton, and Jason (Angela) Eaker of Fosterburg; siblings, Gina Buffington of East Alton, and Chris Durbin of East Alton; seven grandchildren, Alexandria (Brandon) Hinkle, Erin (Dustin) Unverzagt, Haley Shewmake, Isabella Durbin, Olivia Durbin, Marlee Durbin, and Caleb Hovis; and two great-grandchildren, Owen and Ella.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Charles Buffington.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025, from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m., at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, with Pastor Terry McKinzie as officiant. Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
