Rebecca “Becky” Jean (Lawton) Mathews, 64, of Alton celebrated her homecoming in Heaven on the morning of Friday, November 3, 2017.

The daughter of Gene and Velma (Magee) Lawton, she was born December 21, 1952 in Alton. She graduated from Civic Memorial High School in 1971, she worked as a nurse after graduating from Lewis and Clark Community College.

She married Rodney L. Mathews in 1970 and he preceded her in death in 2015.

In addition to her husband, preceding her in death were her son Jason Mathews, mother Velma Lawton and sister Tamara Grant.

Becky is survived by two children Rodney W. and Tonya Mathews, father, Gene Lawton, siblings and Michael Lawton (Nelma), Patrick Lawton (Kathy), and Steven Lawton (Pien), and Melissa Brenner (Keith). Three grandchildren: Karlie Mathews, Cody and Brenden Mugge, 3 great grandchildren Christopher, Olivia and Dakota Clark, and beloved extended family.

Her family deeply loved her and is profoundly feeling the loss of this woman who was such a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Thursday afternoon November 9, the family will receive friends at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton with visitation beginning at 4:30 and a celebration of life service at 6:00 PM with her bother, Dr. Michael D. Lawton, officiating.

Inurnment will be private at Jefferson Barrack National Cemetery.
