Richard Schindler

Richard William (Dick) Schindler, 79, died June 1, 2026, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville, IL.

 Dick was the son of Norbert John and Nancy Hughes Schindler. Dick was born at Our Saviour’s Hospital in Jacksonville. 

He attended Our Saviour’s Grade School, Jonathan Turner Jr. High School and Routt Catholic High School, graduating with the class of 1965. Dick was involved in Boy Scouts and developed a passion for the outdoors; spending many days camping, fishing, hiking and hunting with his father, brother and son. Dick enlisted in the United States Army, spending his tour in Wiesbaden, Germany. When he finished his service, he returned to Jacksonville and then attended Southern Illinois University Vocational Technical Institute (VTI) in Carterville, IL. He studied and specialized in graphic art design. 

After graduation, he was recruited for a teaching position at VTI, and taught graphic art design for many years. He returned to Jacksonville where he was employed at Production Press. Dick has spent the last 4 years at Evercare of Jerseyville (formerly Willow Rose Rehab and Health). 

Dick is survived by his son, Norbert Thomas Schindler, formerly of Chapin, IL, his brother, Dan (Krys) of Oregon, and three sisters, Mary Beth (Michael Pinson) Stevenson, Jodi (David) Mawson and Ann (Larry) Brockhouse, all of Jacksonville, IL, Norby’s mother, Carol Jean (CJ) Flynn of Springfield, IL and numerous nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff members of Evercare and Jersey Community Hospital for their excellent and compassionate care of Dick. 

Memorials are suggested to Evercare of Jerseyville or the donor’s choice.

Private family interment services will be held at a later date. Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville has been entrusted with arrangements.
