Robert Wayne Kohler 69, passed away at 5:50 pm, Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.

He was born on April 15, 1946 in Alton, Il to the late William I. and Leola J. (Wahl) Kohler.

Robert married Judy M. (Black) , on July 23. 1966 they have celebrated 49 wonderful years of marriage. She survives

Upon graduating from Alton High School he proudly enlisted in the Marine Corps and served his country in the Vietnam Era from 1964 to 1967, Robert was wounded in active duty and was sent to the Great Lakes Naval Hospital in Chicago, IL to recuperate, where he met his wife. Bob loved sports and volunteered as a soccer coach and baseball coach for the Alton Park and Recreation. His Love for sports didn’t end there but expanded to playing in men’s basketball, indoor soccer, hockey and managed and pitched for the Alton Cougars Fast Pitch Softball team for almost 20 years.

Bob worked for Shell Oil Co. of Wood River as an operator and retired as a Pressure Vessel Equipment Inspector after 24 years at the age of 46. He continued to work and share his knowledge and experience with others as a independent contractor throughout the United States finally retiring in 2006.

In addition to his wife Judy he is survived by his beloved son and wife; Bob and Jo-ell Kohler, 2 wonderful grandsons, Tyler and Ryan and a much loved sister and her husband; Barb and Stanley Walkington, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He held a special relationship with his mother-in-law; Jane Lyman, sister-in-law Laurie Lyman and niece; Rosa Rodrigues and her husband Rogelio, and daughters Valentina, and Lena Mia of California, and dearest friends Rick and Kathy Sury of Highland.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sister’s, Doris Kohler and Anna and her husband Ed Patterson, a brother Bill and his wife Juanita Kohler and his two loved pets; Fluffy and Sofie.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm, Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL where funeral services will be held at 10 am on Friday, Dec. 11, 2015 with the Bishop Andrew Fergurson officiating.

Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors and or the Jerseyville No Kill Center for animals.
