Sam Kemp

Sam Kemp, 83 of New Baden, IL, born November 13, 1942, in East St, Louis, IL and passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.

Sam graduated class of 1960 East St. Louis, High School. Sam started his law enforcement career in Washington Park Police Department making Lieutenant. He was then assigned first Field Supervisor for “Metropolitan Enforcement Group of Southwestern Illinois”, first MEGSI group in Southern Illinois. He moved to Benton, AR in 1968, taking the position of Chief of Security for Aluminum Company of America Arkansas “ALCOA” operations. He was Past Master of Benton AR Lodge AF & AM, member of Scottish Rite and 32 Degree Blue Lodge of Southern Illinois for over 50 years.

Sam was preceded in death by his first wife, Georgia R. (nee Straub) Kemp whom he married in 1963 and she passed away in 2001; his son Jason Colt Kemp; parents, Palmer N. and Lucille E. (Richeson) Kemp; his siblings, Thelma Girard, Doris M Kemp, Betty Lou Shadwick, Dolores E. Crowley, Shirley A. Rule, Joyce L. Holleman, Margaret M. Dodson and Palmer K. Kemp.

Surviving is his loving wife, Sherry (Sanderson) Kemp whom he married on October 8, 2006; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Visitation for Sam will be 3-6 pm on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, IL.

Funeral service will be held at 6 pm on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, IL with Rev. Tim Harrison officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
