Sister Damian Aycock, aka Ida Clotilde Aycock, died peacefully at the Ursuline Queen of Peace Healthcare Center in Alton, Illinois on July 6, 2012. The daughter of Fernand Joseph Aycock, Sr. of Franklin, Louisiana and Palmyre Lasseigne Aycock of La Place, Louisiana. She was born September 27, 1922 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Of her three siblings, two survive her: Sister Joan Marie Aycock, O.S.U. and Fernand Joseph Aycock Jr. She was preceded in death by a sister, Teresa Aycock Madere.
Sister Damian attended elementary and secondary school at Ursuline Academy in New Orleans, Louisiana,and entered the Ursulines in July of 1942, making her vows in January of 1945. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the College of New Rochelle in New York and a Masters in Education at Loyola University of New Orleans. She served in a colorful array of teaching and administrative assignments which took her to Springfield and Decatur, Illinois; Dallas Texas; Kirkwood and Crystal City, Missouri; and New Orleans, Louisiana; as well as to Mexico for two terms of service. She made her last move from New Orleans to the Queen of Peace Healthcare and Retirement Center in Alton, Illinois, in the fall of 2008.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday July 14, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ursuline Convent Chapel, 845 Danforth Street, Alton, IL. Visitation will precede this Mass beginning at 9:30 a.m. Father Mark Dean, OMI presiding.
Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.
