Stephen “Steve” Thomas Benjey, 56, died March 14, 2017 at Manor Care in Lancaster, PA. Born December 6, 1960 at St Francis Hospital in Litchfield, IL.

Steve graduated from Gillespie High School in 1979. After an apprenticeship under his brother Terry in North Carolina, Steve was employed at his brother Tom’s computer business for three years in Carlisle, PA. Steve then worked at Carlisle Productions for several years.

Steve enjoyed playing cards, working on cars and computers. Some clients called him the Digital Detective.

Most knew Steve by a nickname he earned when he was about 9 years old after an unfortunate mishap while fishing with his brother Don at the Wilsonville Reservoir. Steve was standing behind his bother as Don was casting his fishing line, the three-hook lure embedded into Steve’s forehead. After a trip to the emergency room and a couple of stitches, he was forever known by his new moniker “Fishhooks.”

Steve is survived by brothers Tom (Ann) of Carlisle, PA, Dan (Betty) of Alton, Todd (Anna) of Grant, AL, Don and Grant of Wilsonville, sisters Kathleen Boyer and Beth Gallegos (Ralph) both of Rio Rancho, NM, two nephews Chris Benjey and Jesse Gallegos and two nieces Tara Benjey and Leticia Gallegos. He was preceded in death by his brother Terry. His brother Shawn died July 24 in Springfield.
