Valerie H. Lewis, age 70, of Alton, Illinois passed away on Monday, July 10, 2017, 5:55pm at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, surrounded by her family and friends.  Born July 5, 1947 in Alton, she was the daughter of George W. and Felicia R. (nee: Hale) Goeken.  She married the late Charles E. Tackwell in 1967.  In 1972 she married Rollin E. Bates.  He preceded her in death May, 1975.  She married David A. Lewis in March 1976.  He preceded her in death  February, 2007.  A 1965 graduate of Marquette Catholic High School, she was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  She attended St. Louis School for Medical and Dental Assisting.  She later worked at St. Anthony’s Health Center Center for over 20 years in the Emergency Room and the registration department .  She later received her Paramedic license in 2003 allowing her to continue her passion in medical field.  She was also preceded in death by her mother,  a daughter Tamara Kay Lewis Greco, her grandparents Leo P. Goeken and Irene Williams Goeken, John E. Hale and Maud Wallace Hale, her aunt Dane Lee Goeken Lorch, her mother in law, Mary Springgate Daughhetee. Survivors in addition to her father include her children:Sarah (Mark) Peipert of Carrollton, IllinoisKirsten (Matt) Dover of Godfrey, IllinoisRollin Matthew (Debbie) Lewis of Brighton, IllinoisChad (Beth) Lewis of Alton, IllinoisAnthony “Tony” (Beth) Lewis of Alton,Her siblings: Christy Holt of Alton, Julie (Christopher) Henkhaus of Alton,Mary Donahue of Alton, Anne Hermann of Alton, George W. (Autumn) Goeken,III of Alton,John E. (Diane) Goeken of Alton.Grandchildren: Emily Lee, Adam and Abigail Peipert, Thomas, Luke, Alex and Daniel Jun,Nicholas and Heather McKaig, Taylor Greco, Ricky Hudson, Josie and Ryan Lewis,David Michael, Kyle, Corey and Owen Lewis,Four Great-Grandchildren, Numerous nieces, nephews and her dear friend Nancy Pennell. A Rosary Recitation will be Thursday, July 13, 2017, 400 pm at STATEN-FINE Funeral Home in Alton, followed by visitation from 4:30 pm until 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 14, 2017, 10:00a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Father Jeremy Paulin, O.M.V. as the Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alton. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church , St. Mary’s Catholic School, or Marquette Catholic High School all in Alton. Online Condolences and a guestbook may be found at www.staten-fine.com
