Victoria Sowders

Victoria Ann (Mattis) Sowders, 47, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026. She was born in Alton, IL on April 30, 1979, to Richard and Christine Mattis.

Victoria married Matthew Sowders, the great love of her life, on August 12, 2011.  Victoria is much loved and missed by her husband Matt, her parents, her brother Jason Mattis, nephew Blake Mattis and stepmother Cristy Mattis, John and Ellen Sowders, Brenda Sowders, Ben Welling, Steven and Michele Sowders, Kathy and Matt Kerr, Logan Sowders and her nieces Oliva and Allie, and nephew Lucas, along with numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

Victoria attended St. Francis Holy Ghost Catholic School, Jersey Community High School and Lewis and Clark Community College before graduating from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a degree in music education. She worked in the Piano Prep program at Lewis & Clark Community College, where she took great pleasure and pride in her piano students. Victoria's students always looked forward to spending time with her during their lessons and will also miss her greatly.

A memorial visitation will be held at Gent Funeral Home in Alton on Saturday, August 1, 2026 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Memorials may be made to the 5 A's Animal Shelter in Alton.
