Wayne Heinemeyer

Wayne W. Heinemeyer, 88, of Staunton, IL, passed away at 1:45 PM on Friday, August 28, 2026 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born June 4, 1938 in Staunton, IL, the son of the late Walter C Heinemeyer & Daisy B. (Wall) Heinemeyer. He married Margaret A. Rummer on April 6, 1957 in Staunton, IL & she survives.

Wayne was employed as a lineman for Staunton Telephone Company (later Centel & Sprint) for 46 years before his retirement. Wayne also served his community as a School Board member for 14 years; an Alderman for 4 years; & as the Mayor of Staunton from 1993 to 1997. He was also a member of St. Michael Catholic Church of Staunton, the Staunton Knights of Columbus #2197, the Staunton Lions Club, the Staunton Fire Department, & the Croatian Lodge.

He is survived by his wife - Margaret Heinemeyer of Staunton, IL; one daughter - Susan Kovaly of Staunton, IL; one son - Michael (Kelly) Heinemeyer of Imperial, MO; six grandchildren - Michael G. Kovaly, Justin Walker, Amanda Cowee, Lindsay Jaco, Tyler Walker, & Madison Ruzicka; twelve great grandchildren; & one brother - Gary Heinemeyer. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, IL, with Wake Service being held at 5 PM, & again from 9 to 9:45 AM on Friday, September 4, 2026 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, IL. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM on Friday, September 4, 2026 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Staunton, IL, with Father Mike Haag officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton, IL.
