William "Bill" Andrew Galbraith, 69, passed away at 10:35 am on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at his residence, with his family by his side.
He was born on March 6, 1957, in Wood River, Illinois to Clarence and Christine (Cusic) Galbraith.
He married Nanette Harvey on May 31, 1986, at Whitelaw Ave. Baptist Church in Wood River. She survives.
Bill worked at Wood River Refinery for over 30 years, first as an operator and then moving up to supervisor. An avid movie and music buff, Bill enjoyed classic rock and old westerns. He spent as much time outside as he could, whether he was taking in the beauty of Yosemite or completing projects with his tractor on his property in Brighton. Bill's skills as a handyman were invaluable to everyone he knew. He would always help out wherever he could. He was a lifelong animal lover, and he and Nan adopted and cared for many cats and dogs throughout their marriage, with a particular place in their hearts for rescuing pit bulls. Above all, he loved spending time with his friends and family. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and "Pow-Pow" to his granddaughter, Kayleigh. He will be deeply missed.
In addition to his wife, Nan, he is survived by his children, Justin (Leah) Galbraith of Edwardsville, and Amanda Galbraith of Alton; his siblings, Sue Grob, Barbara Yates, and Michael (Rachel) Galbraith, all of Wood River; and his granddaughter, Kayleigh Galbraith; as well as many well-loved extended family members.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 2, 2026, from 11 am until time of service at 1 pm at Elias, Kallal, & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Burial will immediately follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Madison County Humane Society.
