William P. Cress Jr., 81, died at 8:34 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at OSF St. Anthony’s Health Center. Born December 11, 1935 in Alton, he was the son of William P. Cress Sr. and Lucille (Rowling) Cress. Mr. Cress retired from the Alton Post Office after over 30 years of service and was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and the Eagles, BCCA & ABA. He loved to take care of his yard and any other DIY Projects. He enjoyed trout fishing and camping and spending time with his grandchildren and his dog Sunny. In April 1957 he married the former Doris Peters. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Kim (Mike) Johns of Godfrey and Kelly Runyon of Marshall, IL, one son, Jeff (Jackie) Cress of Edwardsville, five grandchildren, Jeffrey (Lynsey) Cress, Steven (Erika) Johns, Drew (Ashley) Cress, Ashley (Travis) Thompson, and Emma Cress, three great grandchildren, Annabelle Cress, Austin Cress, and Xaden Thompson, one brother, Rex (Sharon) Cress of Pooler, GA, and two sisters, Martha (Larry) Stuker of Black Buttte, OR and Aleta Cress of Kansas City, Kansas. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2017 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Father Steve Pohlman will officiate. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
